Persuasive Essay (Book Review) "Mrs. Doughty's Magic Formula"
Mrs. Doughty’s Magic Formula
For Writing Book Reviews!!!
[also known as A PERSUASIVE ESSAY]
The minimum size of a book review should be 5 paragraphs.
Include the following information in each paragraph, and you will have your book review written.
Paragraph 1:
• The title of your book, and the author of your book (first and last name)
• A brief summary of your book (What was the genre? What was the setting? Is it part of a series of books? Who were the characters?)
• Whether or not you liked this book and would recommend it. (For the purpose of this, let’s just pretend that you will recommend the book.)
Paragraph 2:
• A reason why you would recommend this book
• BE SPECIFIC!!! (Was it a certain character that you liked? Was it one certain event that you really liked? Did it remind you of something that has happened to you in your life? Did you like that the book was not predictable? Etc…)
• Use a quote or page number to support your example
• [If you did not like the book, give a specific reason why you did not like the book.]
Paragraph 3:
• Give ANOTHER reason why you liked the book… just like Paragraph 2.
• [If you did not like the book, give another specific reason why you did not like the book.]
Paragraph 4:
• Give an example of what could have made the book better (Was there a part that was not very believable? Was there a character that you didn’t really like? Did you want more details?)
• [If you did not like the book, give one example of something that you did like about the book.]
Paragraph 5:
• This is your conclusion!
• Restate whether or not you would recommend this book.
• Say who you would recommend this book to.
• Say if you would read other books by this author, or if you have read other books by this author.
• Compare this to other books in this genre.
(That’s it??? It’s that easy???
Yes, yes it is.)
